    Thanks Mercury!

    1) I like that idea, although you can double-click any track to send it to the top – or batch select songs and click the delete key on your keyboard to instantly remove them (IE: remove all tracks above the track you wish to start the automix from).

    2) Yes, as you know, automix will remove tracks automatically from the side list – we will add a setting for “remove track when manually loaded”

    3) Right click on any cue point in the deck section with your mouse and they will be instantly deleted. Some controllers have a function to clear cue point to (like shift + cue position button).

Well, one things certain, it’s not available yet 😉

It’s coming along, we are about to launch a new beta of Karaoki and the KaraoQ360 build of Karaoki with quite a few bug fixes (unrelated to karaoQ) and the final requirements for everything to play much nicer together than in previous iterations. We changed the entire ID system to be a little more robust and scale-able – which took a lot of work but should pay dividends..

This system is unique and nothing out their works quite like it, due to the two-way communication. We just want to make sure this thing is ready to fly before an initial launch, especially considering the wait!

Spindoctor – one more question, are you using Pulselocker at all? Logged in to the service in DEX 3 during your gig? We did update to the latest Pulselocker SDK in 3.6.0.1 and want to rule it out as being the possible culprit.

    Thanks

So you simply right-clicking the song in the library and choosing “Analyze” and it’s not doing it? No songs can be analyzed, or just some do this? I know if it’s a dead link in the library, it won’t work – but then again you wouldn’t be able to load the deck, either!

Yes, just click on the song and either click the “DEL” button on the DEX 3 skin, or click the DELETE button on your keyboard to instantly remove it from the list (this will not remove it from your HD)

    Hello,

Are you certain that the software properly and entirely shut down previous to the issue? Meaning if the software shut down incorrectly or the like (such as turning off the machine before DEX 3 is finished saving) it could corrupt the DB – so it won’t load the next time. Haven’t really seen this in ages though – it was much more common with DEX 2.

It also could be a bad tag (as in the last file you added to the software may have had a really corrupt header/tag that caused the DB to parse when it attempted to save on shut down). If this was the case though, after you re-loaded your entire library it should have happened again. I suggest building your DB again (you likely have already) and then follow these instructions on how to make a backup in case of emergency like this:

Please let me know if you have any further questions!

    Ryan Sherr

    Hello Robert,

Cue points WILL store fine providing the song isn’t still in the deck when you shut down DEX 3 RE. Meaning, if you’ve just set cue points on the song, and its still in the deck and you want to shut down/restart to see if they stick – load another song into that deck first (so the song you just set the cue points on is no longer in the deck). So this is a little nuance we are working to fix!

Now you can re-start DEX 3 RE and the cue points will be there. Be sure to shut down the software properly as well, since all items done in a session are saved upon shut down.

If you download songs to purchases under iTunes, you may need to click OFF the purchases list under the iTunes tab in DEX 3 RE and back on to it. If you then ‘see’ the song it’s also been added to the search cache for searching. However, I may not be correct on this as I believe DEX 3 RE may only check what’s available in iTunes on startup. If this is the case, you can nest your iTunes media folder as a “favorite”. Favorites are updated dynamically, so on-the-fly. If you download a track in iTunes, in DEX 3 RE all you’d have to do is click on the folder in the iTunes media folder that it’s been downloaded into – at that very moment DEX 3 RE will scan the folder’s contents into the search cache/internal DB for searching.

Please let me know if you have any further questions!

    Hello Jason,

A notification was sent out regarding this matter. You can view it here:

Digitrax figured the backing tracks would be useful for some, as often singers (regulars to karaoke anyway) know the lyrics without the on-screen scroll. Many tracks with “no lyrics” are also on the karaoke no-fly list – so they wouldn’t be able to be supplied in Karaoke format at all right now (by any manufacturer). We also have many solo artists that use Karaoki and Cloud Pro to perform with – so they can use the backing tracks without lyrics.

We (as in PCDJ, not Digitrax) have also figured out a method to let users download lyrics online into Karaoki from various online sites with LRC file downloads. Since this will be a manual operation (the KJ will have to click “fetch lyrics online” for the engine to go out and find the lrc files for the backing tracks) the usual synch licensing doesn’t apply. This will make the 7000 or so backing tracks more useful as karaoke tracks (will have lyrics that highlight with the music, on time – but not a traditional ‘scroll’).

This option should be available in a coming beta release of Karaoki.

Please let us know if you have any further questions!

    Not good doc!

Did you figure out the processor type and graphics card? For example, if you have to ucheck high-quality time stretching to address skipping/clipping than there is obviously a resource issue occurring – although not sure where.

On even the most basic machines for DEX 3 enabling HQ time stretching shouldn’t ever cause a skip etc (as we buffer the entire track into RAM to make sure it doesn’t). I am a little concerned about system integrity in general due to this. While on the surface things may look OK, but I suspect something is going on. While it may not be the only reason for the random crash, it may be the main culprit.

Here’s what we have for our requirements for DEX 3:

    SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: WINDOWS

    Windows: 7 / Windows 8 / Windows 8.1 / Windows 10
2.5GHz Intel Core 2 Duo / Core 2 Quad / Core i3/i5/i7 / Amd Phenon (Celeron Not Recommended)
4 GIG RAM or Better (if you have over 80,000 songs you will want at least 6GB of RAM, over 125,000 or so 8GB of RAM. More the merrier if you’re video mixing)
Video Card: Dedicated Graphics Card with at least 512MB (or Intel HD 3000 Series or better)
    DirectX/ASIO Compatible Multi-Channel Audio Interface
200 MB free on the hard-drive

    SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: MAC

Mac: OSX 10.8 (Mountain Lion) or greater
    2.5GHz Intel Core 2 Duo / Core i3/i5/i7
4 GIG RAM or Better (if you have over 80,000 songs you will want at least 6GB of RAM, over 125,000 or so 8GB of RAM. More the merrier if you’re video mixing)
Video Card: Dedicated Graphics Card with at least 512MB (or Intel HD 3000 Series or better)
    Multichannel Core Audio soundcard
200 MB free on the hard-drive

Note: The above are recommendations for standard 480p Video file Mixing.
    – for 720p HD videos (1280×720) — at least 4GB of RAM, 8GB recommended, a video card with at least 512MB video RAM
    – for 1080p/1080i full HD videos (1920×1080) — at least 4GB of RAM, 8GB recommended, a video card with at least 1gb video RAM

Tracker, we took a couple days this week to test the new search code, and after doing about 1000 searches on a DB of about 180,000 songs (all tests were on MAC) we couldn’t produce a crash, nor was the code leaking memory anywhere. So this one still has us stumped – we simply can’t find any issues with the search code. It may be related to something else however, and only manifesting itself while searching (such as a spike in memory usage).

Is there something on your MAC that can monitor memory usage? 20K tracks isn’t enough to max out the search cache, even if you only have 4GB of RAM (which should manage around 80,000 songs without issue).

Spinndoctors – so is it happening while searching? Can you email me the Van Halen track? While it may not appear anything is wrong, it could be a bad header (hidden) or frame that’s hard to distinguish. We’d like to see the file.

I assume you’re not running any other software at the same time? Have you perhaps watched your memory usage and made sure it’s not maxing out?

How many tracks total do you believe you have in the library, and how much RAM (and is your graphics card dedicated or shared)?

Any further date you can provide. I’ve had a handful of users suggest a similar random crash, while others can easily perform hours on end without a hiccup. I used DEX 3 personally this past weekend for about 6 hours using autoplay for some, and manual mixing for a portion too – no issues at all. I was mostly playing from Pulselocker but was mixing videos in, too.

Thanks for any further details you can provide (and please email me that file!).

Since everything in the library (all lists, the internal DB, search cache, history etc) is based on links to the physical file location, you really just have to start fresh after moving your files.

Delete the DB file in Documents -> PCDJ-DEX3 -> Datebase (in that folder, delete the database file).

Then when you launch DEX 3 you’ll have a fresh library and you can import your tunes from the external drive location.

These specs are solid for DEX 3 – although I would make sure you get a machine with at least 8GB of RAM if you have a nice sized library and for optimal performance:

Yeah, most DJs do use an external (at least Mobile DJs) due to the sheer size of their libraries (with some taking out over half a million tracks between their audio, video and karaoke files). It works just fine, but not quite as snappy as using an internal HD for loading files into the decks – but it’s negligible.

What makes a great deal of performance difference is an SSD drive versus HDD (for internal use only however) – as SSD is lightning quick and noticeably more responsive when searching/loading files.

Are you 100% certain you’re using DEX 3.6.0.1? (make sure it’s not 3.6)

We reviewed the search code and the changes made in the code from 3.5.7 to 3.6.0.1 all week last week due to the previous forum posts regarding the search crash and haven’t been able to locate any issues in the code that would cause a crash and/or memory leak – so we are stumped. It’s not happening across the board and none of us have been able to re-create it so far so we’re not getting anywhere.

Are you on MAC or windows? If on MAC we’d like a crash log – I can explain how to grab it.

How many files total do you have in the library? And how much system RAM?

Thanks kickasskaraoki – however, if the singer is already part of the show, when you add a song to rotation and select their name it will bring them and their history back into rotation (then if you double-click their name in rotation it will show all their previous history as well).

I suppose you probably mean scrolling down the list of singers to select their specific name when you drag a song to rotation is cumbersome? You can sort by A-Z to make it easier to locate them quickly/alphabetically, That list can likely get pretty long though!

Hi, kickasskaraoki! (great name, we approve!)

It’s likely because you have fields (artist, title, case etc) that are stretching beyond the visible right side of the rotation box. If you make sure all fields are sized so you can see all data (or you hide the columns in that section you do not need to see) without having to scroll to the right to see it all in the rotation box – you will no longer have this problem!

Let us know how it goes!

Hello bremmy, and welcome to the forum!

It sounds like you have old, dead links in your search cache. You likely added or accessed songs previously that have since been moved on the drive or the like. Remember, other than what you see visually – there is an internal database and search cache that contains tags/links to any files that have ever been accessed in the software.

Since you’re having this issue I suggest starting over with a fresh library/DB. That way when you import files or access them via folders in DEX 3, the tags/links added to the search cache and DB will be valid.

To do this, with DEX 3 closed go into documents -> PCDJ-DEX3 -> Database. In that folder DELETE the DATABASE file. Now when you open DEX 3 you will have a fresh library, so you can then scan you collection into the DB again and nest your folders as favorites for browsing. Those new links should all be valid in the search cache – so no more issues loading songs.

    Thanks

Hi guys, slideshow/text-to-screen is one of the next things we plan to release – and already 85% or so completed (but have had to jump off that project from time to time for other items).

The live cam feed is another on our to-do – which is a fairly massive to-do at this point! We’re also finally updating our iOS app and launching an Android version. It will be a full-featured app and have a feature set that mirrors DEX 3 minus video mixing and key detection/key mixing. Although those items will be possible in time.

Thanks, but it’s a beta, therefore a testing ground for all that’s new and to come. KaraoQ also needs to be released, and will be part of the public release of Karaoki. You can use KaraoQ with Karaoki independent of KaraoQ360.

KaraoQ support IS NOT a priority over any of the other reported issues (and by my count there’s not ‘so many critical bugs’ – but rather 2-3 issues that seem to be related to a couple things, one being the new audio/video engine which we’re rolling back on for the time-being) – but it IS a company priority. It was something planned for a late last year release and much time and effort has already been applied. Our partners also need to launch the system/service.

We’ll have a new beta soon, next couple of days. I look forward to everyone’s feedback.

I suggest Karaoki users keep using a previous beta (if applicable) or the public release of Karaoki (5633) for live performance until a new beta is posted and vetted a bit.

How many tracks total do you have in your library? I know the new search cache does ‘pre-load’ on startup in the beta’s, for 2X faster search. So it may be related, but it should have always taken that long if indeed it was the size of the library, alone.

You’ll get something new to test when it’s available. The public version is stable so use it until a new beta is posted.

To be clear, you can “right click” and physically delete the file IN DEX 3, however, the tag info and link will still be in the tag cache/search cache. Therefore you would end up with a dead link in the DB. The re-curse function would address this.

    Hello Dave,

The issue is that the search cache/internal database are ‘hidden’ and will still contain the old tags/links from the duplicate files. We are working on a recurse function that will automatically address this, but for now you would really have to delete the DB file from documents -> PCDJ-DEX3 -> database (inside that folder). This will clear out everything from the database list, to user lists and the internal database and search cache. So you would be starting with a completely fresh empty browser.

Text to screen is coming along – about 90% done.

DEX 3 is optimized for Windows 10 – and for me DEX 3 runs better on 10 than it did on 8. This is likely due to Windows 10’s further optimization of Direct X 11/12 – which DEX 3 utilizes (3.5 and up).

Dave4pk, while SongbookDB is a possibility, I think judgement should be held until KaraoQ really hits the streets.

KaraoQ pricing isn’t set, either. There will be a free version for example (runs ads), and much is still being determined and worked on. KaraoQ uses a very modern interface that’s more in-tune with our development goals for DEX 3 – and does much of the heavy lifting for you (IE it syncs your library and cleans up meta data to display to singers – no need to upload your song list manually).

If we build out the remote connections support in DEX 3 it may make it easy to support both platforms.

    Ryan Sherr

Hello Tammy, and welcome to the forum!

Your issue sounds like it’s related to dead links in the PCDJ Library.

If you can’t load a song to a deck from the PCDJ library (meaning when you drag the song to the deck or right click to load it an NOTHING happens) it’s because the PATH to the physical file (the actual file itself on your hard drive) is broken:

Meaning, the path to the files your attempting to play in PCDJ themselves (physical file location) has changed since importing into PCDJ. Browsers/Databases like what’s used in all PCDJ software are based on valid links to the physical file – so evidently your changing the path (likely not on purpose.)

If you use an external hard drive to store your music, the common issue is that the DRIVE LETTER changes for the hard drive itself. Windows assigns the external hard drive a different letter (E to F for example) – which will of course break the path to the files in PCDJ. You simply can’t change the file path after you import into PCDJ or you’ll break the valid links.

To avoid the Hard Drive letter changing, ALWAYS make sure that when you plan to use the external hard drive that you have it plugged into your computer BEFORE turning it on. Never plug in the external hard drive AFTER the computer is already on – or Windows will assign it another drive letter, breaking the path to the files.

Of course, you can’t rename any of the directories the files are in, or move the files around on the drive either – that will break the links too.

You can right click in any list or the database in PCDJ and choose to “remove dead files” (give it a few seconds to “think”) and you’ll see the dead files get removed. Just re-import the files from their current location and rebuild the library at this point – that way the links will be valid. And moving forward always have your hard drive plugged in before turning your computer on to avoid this happening again in the future.

Here’s some tips specifically about this:

Let us know how things go.

    Thanks!

The last changed to the Karaoki playback engine was almost a year ago – so maybe you haven’t updated in some time? What build number are you using now (go to options -> utilities -> check for update and you’ll see the version number your running now there)

What graphics card are you running in your machine, and how much RAM and what’s the processor?

The Lyrics should scroll just as well, but the newer versions may require a bit more power (*from the GPU) than older iterations.

Yes, and it IS a beta – so clearly some items to be addressed. For live gigging, I’d recommend 5633 still (as it’s still the official public release – and the free trial version at PCDJ.com).

I suspect most of these items will be addressed soon, I do know Alan has struggled to re-create the singer duplication issue however. He needs to be able to re-create it on the development machine in order to seek and destroy. Does anyone have a guaranteed step-by-step instruction on how to get the singer duplication issue to materialize?

I’m not real confident the MP4 issue you continue to have will be addressed via an update (soon) as native video support is still a few skips down the road. The reliance on codecs will be necessary for now. I wonder if you strip out all other media software on the machine and just install the klite mega codec pack if that will address it – hard to say. All mp4 files are not created equal, and may use/pick up different codecs which is why you have some that work and others that do not.

    Sheryl,

It will save for the show history however long you wish. You only start a “new show” if it’s a different venue/set of singers than previous shows. Just right click in rotation and “clear rotation” if that’s all you need to do. You only want to start new shows for new venues and different sets of singers, not for each new karaoke night if it’s the same venue/set of singers. This way it will continue to log history for that show and their singers for however long you wish.

“New Show’ should only be used for different shows with different history. Just use “clear rotation” to start a new night if it’s the same show/singers.

    Does this help/answer your question?

We replied to your ticket on this. How much system RAM do you have? Not hard drive space. And are we reading that correctly, is that 1 million plus files in the DB? If they’re karaoke files, it may just be half that (around 650K), but for that amount of content in DEX 3 you need at least 12GB of system RAM available for the search cache. It may just be the sheer size of your library and the search cache not being able to operate with wiggle room. I don’t have any other reports of this with 3.6 so I’m guessing it’s related.

Please let us know (you can reply here or the ticket!)

Duncan, if you select the “auto remove” option in rotation options singers without a song in their queue will still be removed from rotation. Most people don’t want this as singers often sing multiple songs, but if you just want singers to to be removed use the “auto remove” option.

What will happen is the singers WILL still show in the rotation list after the first song they sing. Then, if they come back around in rotation without a song in their queue and you click LOAD NEXT SINGER and it skips them for the next singer in the queue those singers without songs will automatically be removed from the rotation list. No need to remove them manually.

The “fixed rotation mode” feature, once added to Karaoki, increased sales nearly 70%, It was by far the most well received change we’ve ever made. but clearly different KJs have different requirements!

    Thanks for the update!

There is an issue causing singer duplication in the beta as well – so you’ve pretty much run across all the known bugs 🙂 We expect a new beta next week that will hopefully squash ’em.

    A couple notes:

If you click the “search results” option on the left side of the browser it will expand the singers rotation list the entire right side – giving you more room to see singers. Regardless, when you drag to the rotation list you can still select the singer from the singer history (below the box where you type in a singer) – even if you can’t “see them” since they are a way’s down in the rotation list (below the bottom of the screen).

Also, if you just use LOAD NEXT SINGER it will always load the next singer with a SONG to sing from the rotation list – it skips all singers that have “add a song or you will be skipped” automatically. You do not need to drag the singer up – even if they are 12 spots down below a bunch of singers without songs, load next singer will load the next available singer with a song.

You can also double-click any singer in rotation and click “IN ROTATION” at the bottom of the singer data/history screen to pull them out of rotation.

So you’re aware as well, you can right-click a singer in rotation and “send to top” or bottom.

Some of the items you’ve reported are indeed bugs, others are operational items.

We’re all looking forward to the next beta – we’ll get those problems addressed asap!

That was an issue 2 RC versions back – but is now resolved. We JUST posted the official 3.6 update a few minutes ago – please download/install from this page with your existing version closed:

Please let us know if the issue persists! If it does, how much RAM do you have on your system? What’s the graphics card? And, how many tracks total do you have in the library/search cache (best guess will work)?

Thanks Mark, development is aware of a couple issues with the BGM player in the latest public beta – and that’s why it’s indeed a beta 🙂

What settings are you using the BGM? When you’re in the BGM section, right click on the text “background music” – you will then get a settings drop-down menu for various BGM play modes. I would try the auto-pause on load option so that the music pauses and doesn’t continuously play in the background, and choose to start a new track each time, too.

With those settings, does the BGM act as expected?

    Thanks Duncan,

How are you removing a song from rotation? You double-click the singers name, and just untick the box next to the song you no longer want in rotation (this will instantly remove it from rotation). You can also pull the singer out of rotation on the singer data screen, add songs from their history etc.

You can also remove the “add song or you will be skipped” message. Right click in the rotation list and go to rotation options – then click the option for “queued only”. Now it will not display that message.

Do not DELETE singers from the show unless you want to delete them and their history. Obviously it shouldn’t create the issue (changing rotation order, so we’ll look into that!) – but you simply double-click their name and click the IN ROTATION button to pull them out.

Again, this isn’t really a matter of not being able to manage the rotation manually like list mode – you just have to know how to do things. I can move singers around, pull singers in and out of rotation, reorder their queue etc – without any delay or issue. I think you just need to understand some of the concepts here – and hopefully my suggestions above will assist!

I don’t have this issue at all with those video clips – so this is certainly interesting. Are you using a dedicated graphics card? They are necessary for HD video clips, for example.

What are the specifications of the machine?

We have found an issue if you steadily run videos for over an hour, there seems to be a memory leak. This should be addressed in the public release this week however.

    Hello,

Unfortunately RED VRM used an old system, without any method to export playlists or generate M3U playlist files that would import into DEX 3 RE (Red Edition – FKA RED Mobile 3). You can import playlists from more recent PCDJ software applications that use more modern browsers, but not the old VRM.

    Hello Wally.

The Karaoke CLoud Pro integration with Karaoki is very in-depth, and took months to complete. It’s a Digital Rights Management “tethering system” – so the files are encrypted and can only be used with Karaoki on the same machine, and with an active subscription. Karaoke Cloud Pro isn’t baked into DEX 3 RE at this time, but we may consider it in the future.

DEX 3.6 Public Beta 4 Now Available

Here’s What’s New And Changed In DEX 3.6 Beta 4
    3.6.0 beta 4 (both Mac/Windows).
    Changes since beta 3:

    – Loop small videos (if you link a video clip that is smaller than the audio track, the video gets looped)
    – Fixed loading of corrupted (but recoverable) tracks like certain WMA files (eg. wmapro with bad frames)
    – Fixed video recording, you can now record in MP4 on Windows too (better overall video recording quality)
    – Various small performance improvements

bertiepr – I understand where your coming from, completely.

It’s an issue because Karaoki isn’t a video player, relying on third-party codecs for video playback. I’m sure some of the other products you’ve tried are native video players. It hasn’t been a priority of us since most of our users over the last 8 years primarily use standard mp3+G/zipped karaoke files, but we have seen an increase in karaoke mp4 usage recently. We will be looking into options for a more universal solution for video playback in Karaoki, but for the most part, for now, codecs have done the trick for users – albeit tricky at times.

Yes, I would think so anyway! Since the Active X control when enabled on the HC4500 (I do forget the command to do his unfortunately, it’s been a few years!) basically makes the fader work as a midi/hid crossfader – the “learn” feature should work,

Just have the HC4500 connected to the mixer and active X control enabled – then click LEARN in PCDJ. Then click the crossfader on screen. Move the fader on the mixer to the left, then move it to the right. Then click LEARN on screen to exit again – in theory this should map the physical fader on the mixer to the on-screen fader/s.

Jp, we don’t have all the details of the new product yet, and aren’t at a point where we can share what it will entail publicly.

Keep in mind this decision is a new one – based on list mode being somewhat dated from a code standpoint, it’s also creating some issues with some of the newer functions of the software. Like doubling singers, and re-ordering the list when adding/removing singers. We only decided to move away from list mode about 2 weeks ago.

The way you use the rotation is fairly unique, but I personally feel you can do all of those items just as easily with fixed mode – which had some issues early on, but shouldn’t now. You can just as easily move singers around, pull them out of rotation, etc as in list mode.

    Thanks

    JP,

    Per your questions:

“On a separate note, I have a question; are other previously mentioned changes included in this beta?
Ex: Singer Name dialogue box automatically moving typing cursor to text box, and using “Enter” button to finalize selection in dialogue box?”

Yes, that feature is included – so when you drag a track to a singer in rotation you can just click ENTER on your keyboard to send the song to rotation (as opposed to having to click “OK” with your mouse).

Yes, ‘list mode’ is gone by design. Alan had mentioned we plan to break off that rotation mode and solo artist features into a new product targeting solo singers and home use. I am surprised to hear you do not like the fixed rotation mode – care to elaborate why? I am curious, since once this feature was added to Karaoki sales increased nearly 80% – it seems like most KJs want the software to manage the rotation for them, as opposed to having to manually do it in list mode. The value of course is that if a singer comes up and asks for 3 songs, you can put them and all three of their songs into their queue – and the software will rotate them in the list throughout the night, keeping a proper rotation order.

It’s also easy to pull singers out – just double-click their name (brings up the singer data screen with their personal queue and history) and click IN ROTATION to pull them out. You can also pull in songs from their history in the singer data screen, re-order songs in their queue – etc. I find “fixed mode” to be much more KJ friendly with these features.

Don’t expect to see list mode back in the ‘normal’ Karaoki updates – but rather a new, lighter product coming down the pipe.

dftweedie – no sweat! Just glad you figured it out 🙂

Keep the suggestions going guys. I may not reply to you directly on your suggestion, but that doesn’t mean it’s not being considered etc. Some good, thoughtful stuff so far!

    dftweedie – you said:

“Also, how do you change the rotation order? I try dragging and dropping the singers in the left side panel of the singer’s list, but that doesn’t seem to work.”

Drag and drop to re-arrange singers in the rotation list should definitely work just fine. Not from “singer data”, but directly in the rotation list. Make sure you’re using “fixed rotation” now as well (we’re going to be removing the old “list mode” soon and creating a different version of Karaoki for hobbyists and solo artists from it).

To be sure you’re in fixed mode – right click in the rotation list and select “rotation options” – select FIXED.

If you still can’t drag and drop to re-order singers in the rotation list please let me know! That wouldn’t be ‘normal’.

Also, when you are in the singer data screen for any singer you can right click on any song in their queue or history and choose to “move to top” or “move to bottom” etc. You can also just put a tick in the box for any songs you want to immediately send from history to rotation – and re-order songs any way you please in the singer data screen too.

    What build are you using??

    “cast to your second screen”

Using what exactly? I know with chrome cast it would result in sync issues – especially if you’re trying to broadcast the audio from your laptop directly but using the cast for just video – it would result in about 2 second delay between the two.

Check out this blog post from a user on how he wirelessly transmits the video from Karaoki:

That solution surprisingly seems to work well for broadcasting the singers display!

    Hello Pops,

Key changes are remembered automatically in a singers history (so if you place the song back into rotation from the singers history it will remember to change key to the previous key change when loading to the deck).

Be sure to adjust key IN the singers list BEFORE you load the track for the key change to be remembered. Right click on the singer/song in rotation and key it up or down there – or double-click the singers name and key the song up and down in their singer queue. Then, if you use load next singer to load/play from rotation the key change will automatically occur as soon as the track is loaded to the deck.

Let me know if you need further guidance on this!

bertiepr – It could be the type of MP4 as they are not all equal. Various encoding options and containers can be used for MP4 files.

What I know is we’ve been selling a karaoke download pack of HD karaoke files here:

We have sold the HD packs to many a Karaoki customer and they are using these files in Karaoki, with various OS’s. As I also explained in my previous response I am able to play the mp4 files on my windows 10 machine.

No mistake though, I know users have had problems with codecs due to conflicts or the like – results seem to vary greatly, even when users are on the same OS and use the same codec pack. It’s not an exact science.

Karaoki is not a native video player, so the nuances of using codecs unfortunately come into play.

Can you send me one of your mp4 files so I can check it out here? rsherr AT pcdj dot com.

I understand that’s your current experience, and I certainly hope the QT suggestion works for you.

I should state clearly that many customers can play mp4 videos in Karaoki using Windows 10 (most of the time, all they need to do is install the klite mega codec pack – and in some cases they don’t need to install ANYTHING to play mp4s). I’m one of them – I can play the HD MP4 files from Digitrax in Karaoki on this machine (Which has loads of other media software, too).

Codecs are considered fickle things, as they can be hit or miss from machine to machine. Karaoki is not a native video player, therefore the current requirement for third party codecs is necessary.

Bertiepr, you can’t tell Karaoki which codec to pick up. But if you have other media software on the machine you will likely continue to have issues since those products likely have their own codecs installed, creating the conflict.

One customer had success with all his MP4 videos after removing all other media software and codec packs – then installed quicktime (only) and set it up like this:

In config for QT I went to File Types
Unchecked Notify me if other app
unchecked everything except Video – QuickTime Movie

    In MIME Types:
Unchecked Notify me if other app
    Unchecked everything except these:
    Streaming – SDP stream descriptor
    Streaming – RTSP stream descriptor
    Video – QuickTime Movie
    Audio – WAVE audio
    Audio – MIDI

    Streaming:
    Uncheck Enable Instant-On

May be worth a shot. As most pro KJs dedicate their gig machine to performing with Karaoki its likely they don’t run into codec conflicts.

    QuickTime Player config:
Enable Use high quality video settings when available
Disable Show Content Guide at startup

    – automatically enable On-Air when Talk is used
    – changed name from “pcdjDEX” to “DEX3”

Hello, we would love to know what issue/s you had running the beta?

We have had a couple additional beta updates to address some issues over the last couple of weeks, so you may want to try the latest on this page of the beta testing thread: http://www.pcdj.com/forums/topic/beta-build-0-8-5879-23686-feb-5th-2016-2/page/2/

Also covered on that page of the testing thread is the required removal of the Select A Track store – as a UK based company they too have to geoblock US purchases, at least for the time being. Big crack down on foreign karaoke sales sites selling into the US right now, citing lack of proper licensing.

The karaoke cloud store is still available, and you should be able to purchase/download songs with a KC next to them.

Hoping we can add the SAT store back in the near future!

Bertiepr, it could actually be VDJ causing the issue for Karaoki. Codecs are pretty finicky things, and having ANY other media player on the machine could conflict. Karaoki will basically pick up what’s available, and other applications that install codecs can trump the codecs installed by KLITE.

These steps were sent to me by a customer that wasn’t able to get the KLITE mega pack to work for his mp4 files as well. He said after performing these actions with Quicktime he can now play all his video files (so Karaoki must be picking up the quicktime codec). Worth a go!

    I installed K-Lite Codec Pack
    And then

    I installed QuickTime.

In singer data, you can right click and “uncheck all” if you select all. And you can then easily just put a tick in the box for each song you want to send to rotation, and re-order the tracks there too. To re-order just drag and drop to rearrange in the singer data screen.

bertierpr, remember – not all mp4’s are created equal (many encoding variations), and since Karaoki relies exclusively on third party codecs to play video files, it’s related to that. I know a customer recently said once he installed the mega codec pack from PCDJ.com and uninstalled Windows Media Player the MP4’s then played perfectly. Just an idea!

    Ryan Sherr

    Thanks!

I think there is a universal issue with the MIC in DEX 3 right now – which would present itself with the American Audio DP2. This is one of the fixes expected for 3.6.

I’ll have to install an old copy of DEX 2 to see what you mean with the mouse movements on the beat grid/waveform – I don’t remember that, but I believe you 🙂

We will support ANY controller we can get our hands on – its up to the manufacturer to supply the device on loan however. We need the controller here in order to support it correctly. I’ll reach out to our RANE contact!

    Ryan Sherr
    Keymaster

DJCoke, the new loading engine (in the 3.6 beta) seems to have addressed the pops/clicks on non VRM played songs that had the issue (tracked it down to certain encoders). There are some issues with 3.6, but we expect a new beta this week to address those other concerns – we’d appreciate if you let us know if the update does address the pops/clicks on songs that the mp3trimpro didn’t fix (keep in mind this is truly an indexing issue with VRM played songs – so if mp3trimpro does do the trick that’s good – since it’s fixing the issue at it’s core, and not just “ignoring” the bad frames).

We will be making it so history logs tracks after 20 seconds or so of continual playback.

With a $19.99 a month Pulselocker subscription you can download as many tracks as you wish for offline use – so you do not need internet at your gig at all (you can store as many tracks as you wish locally for offline use – for 30 days at a time between billing cycles).

If users want to create skins that look like controllers that’s entirely up to them. We have the “skin designer” that makes mapping your own custom skin design easier (much more so than in previous PCDJ software iterations). We create the default skins, users create any of the others – just like in years past. Search our site for “skin designer” to find the download.

Re-ordering playlists and much of what you’ve also pointed out are in the to-do as well.

Keep in mind here that when you build DJ software today, you have to take into account new DJs. The younger generation of DJs NEED a lot of these newer features you may not use. Yes, you want to stay loyal to your old-school users to a point, but unless you’re innovating for the younger generation of up and coming DJs you’re not going to survive in this competitive space today.

Pretty much everything else you’ve suggested is something we’re either already working on, or plan to soon. It all starts with the 3.6 update – which I hope to post this week for you all to download/try.

Thanks again guys, please keep it up. Development is watching 🙂
