Hi Ryan, any chance of a song search facility within a particular singers history? So I can go to say, Fred Flintstone’s song list history and search for American Pie and see which version he sang before & preferred?
Also, are OGG files ever likely to be supported as an alternative to MP3?
Hi Ryan, I’ve still been using DEX 2 up til now, but decided to download DEX 3 to play with at home for a few weeks before putting it on my gig machine. It’s not picked up my DEX 2 licence and when I try to enter my licence number in either of the available boxes, it says its not valid? Can you help please buddy? Many thanks. Thanks Ryan (sorry had to go to a gig), appreciate the advice as always. I’ll look again at the Behringer tomorrowJuly 14, 2017 at 2:09 pm in reply to: Multi Channel External Soundcard recommendation please #14209
Ryan someone has just pointed me in the direction of the Gigaport HD+ unit
Will that do the job for me please? It looks like it to my untrained eye but I’d be grateful for your confirmation. The Behringer looks great but probably a little over engineered for my simple needsJuly 14, 2017 at 2:01 pm in reply to: Multi Channel External Soundcard recommendation please #14208
Ah yes, you’re right, FX VRM / Karaoki was def the first one I used. Back in the year 1792 wasn’t it? Lol! My Gigaport has served me well 😇July 14, 2017 at 1:26 pm in reply to: Multi Channel External Soundcard recommendation please #14206
If I’m honest I didn’t update to Dex 3 because a) Dex 2 does everything I need it to do (and I’m very much an if it ain’t broke why fix it type of guy) and b) I probably never noticed it was free lol!
Was Dex 1 and Karaoki the one where everything was on the same screen? And the Karaoki player was sat underneath the ‘disco’ players? If so, then yes, I still used my Gigaport AG but I couldn’t tell you what the settings were I’m afraid. Dex 2 and Karaoki as stand alone programs (not plugin). I use Dex to play a playlist I set up and Karaoki for karaoke obviously. Plus I use a 3rd deck of Dex for any special tracks I want on the spur of moment to mix into the night. I do like to be 100% in control. Hence I’d still prefer list option not fixed for karaoke rotation lol! Hint hint!
Hi Ryan, yes I’m aware of those options, but on my previous version (untried on this new beta), if you used the auto remove feature, then tried to add the singer back into the rotation later in the night, it reshuffled the singer list and deleted several of them too. I quickly learned that was to be avoided lol!! But I do emphasise, that was on my previous version and not tried in this beta. I’m out again Thursday, I’ll try it again. I’m sure it’ll be fine now
I’ve gotta say I agree 100% with dirtybird, I find the fixed rotation a real pain in the backside lol! I’m in charge of my shows & I have a system that works perfectly for me. I put the singers in where I want them, when I want them. I do it better than any automated system will do because I’m at my shows, looking at whats in front of me and after 30 years I know what I’m doing. Fixed rotation also falls down when you have singers that put in songs to do on their own, as well as duets. I’m very strict and will only allow one song per singer per round. So to see ‘Jimmy put a song in or you’ll be skipped’ right alongside Jimmy and Jenny doing a duet is infuriating and I’m doing more shuffling around than I ever did before and I’m forever moving names up and down. It would be nice to just have the old fashioned way back (Ryan I do completely accept that for inexperienced hosts they might prefer fixed rotation because they don’t have to think, but surely both can be an option).
I too, on a single occasion had lyrics freeze the other night. However mine wasn’t on a search, it was when dragging a song from the search box to a singers name. To be fair, it was once though, in three shows. Very odd and I’d almost forgotten about it.
Love the idea of a track length display, would be very useful indeed.
Lastly, I too had the issue of the singer and wrong song being displayed (yet right track plays). The system is picking up whatever track is highlighted in the rotation list (or you will be skipped message).
All that said, its still the best hosting software I’ve used, and I’d hate to be in Ryan or Alan’s shoes getting all these comments lol!! 🙂
Hi Ryan / Alan,
After my detailed problems as listed further up the thread, I have gradually found work arounds for them all over the months. Inconvenient, but workable lol! I kept meaning to roll back to the last public / stable release but never quite got around to it. Today I did, and oddly it reminded me of a problem I’d not mentioned previously.
My database of singers and their song history had become unusable. It had rolled all the song titles and codes together etc., so I kind’ve just abandoned it and started a new show every time, with new singers, and manually entering each track every time. However, having done the roll back today, it’s sorted itself out again! Happy days!
Now I don’t know if it was a glitch it the beta, a part of my history file that had corrupted on the update to beta level or anything. I’m just glad it works again now!
I only mention it in case it’s not unique to me but just never got mentioned in amongst the duplicate singer and other issues by others too.
At tonight’s gig I decided not to preload any shows or singers, just run an unnamed show from scratch. I had very few problems. No duplication or deletions other than duplicated names in the pop up window when you drag a song to the rotation area. Is that any clue to you clever bods? Could the errors be rooted somehow in the saved shows somehow? Again, only a unproven one off test lol!
Windows 7, never been updated as used solely for shows so never on the net
I certainly have multiple duplications. If I delete the affected singer/song then it APPEARS to then delete other singers that have been either in the loaded show previously. I only say appears as I’ve not been able to test that theory properly. Also singers who may have been deleted from rotation then added back in afterwards. Fresh entries seem to duplicate. Does that make any sense?
Absolutely. I completely accept that Ryan 100%. Be great if we could keep both options though 😃😃
Thanks for the reply Ryan and all points noted. I still firmly believe the old style of rotation was better (my opinion only of course). It was far less cluttered without loads of erroneous singers clogging my screen. Hope that makes sense
Only thing I’ve been able to do is clear the whole rotation and re-load every song and singer that was waiting
Hi Ryan, update an hour into the gig. I’ve loaded a show that I started last week. As I’ve now tried to add in a singer, the current rotation has duplicated several singers songs. If I click on their name and use the remove from rotation button the disappear, but re-entering them into the rotation brings back the duplication of song.
Also, whilst you’re absolutely right that using the queued only option means singers don’t appear on screen two, they still appear on my singers list. As soon as I’m over 20 singers in a rotation, I can’t help adding a song to an existing singer, not a new one. There’s no more room in the box. Also every time I enter a new song, I have to drag it up above all the ones waiting blankly
Hi Ryan, thanks for the reply. Up to now I’ve tried two methods to remove a singer / song from the show. The method you suggest works ok, but I have multiple singers with very large song lists. I have to scroll through to find the song and un tick it. Very long winded. Or I right click, select remove singer, and my rotation is rearranged and partially deleted. I will now, however, try the In Rotation option and see how I get on.
At my next show (tomorrow) I’ll try the Queued Only option you suggest too, from the start. I dare not try it during the show as even bringing up the search options box seems to delete singers and rearrange my rotation lol!!
And I do fully accept that it is a process of ‘getting used to it’. I guess I’m just old skool and like to be in control. I’m sure I’ll get it in the end
I am having a nightmare recently after the beta release on 1/4/16
I too (as several have said above) MUCH prefer the standard list type rotation system, where I’m completely in control. I want to be able to shuffle things to suit MY shows, rather than let the program do it for me. However for now, following Ryan’s kind advice, I’m using fixed rotation.
Whenever I try and remove a song from the rotation, it deletes other singers and changes my rotation completely. Even if I simply look at my rotation options it does this.
Towards the end of a show, there’s no way of stopping the ‘add a song or you will be skipped’ dialogue appearing on screen so I’m constantly bombarded with fresh requests even though I can’t take any more. If I delete singers from the rotation or from the show, I get the problem as above. Plus, any singers left in, have their songs duplicated in the rotation, so I have to delete them too and re-enter their name and song choice.
Any help gratefully received.
