WHERE IT BEGAN/continued

I’d like to take you down memory lane to August 1999, DJ EXPO Atlantic City, and the first ever public display of a professional digital DJ software.

It was PCDJ’s first ever tradeshow in a 20 x 20 booth displaying the 1200SL software. We had the software set up using a touch-screen in a DJ coffin and also in what was “advanced and future-forward technology” for the time, a Lunch-Box PC. Laptops simply didn’t have the horsepower to run the 1200sl, which was at the time a truly groundbreaking product, but had nowhere near the functionality of our latest DJ software offerings.

We were the buzz of the show. Our booth was truly over-run by admirers and skeptics alike, including the late-great Jam Master Jay (just checkout his facial expression in the photo, priceless!) and legendary producer Nile Rogers. The number one comment was “I could never use a computer on a gig, they crash.” Too funny, other notable comments were “is it legal?” follow up by “can you get good audio quality from a PC?”.

Well I suppose time has certainly been a testament that computers can in fact be used as DJ systems, and the quality is comparable to DJ hardware and getting better all the time. Just listen to our new sound engine in Dex 2.0 and Red Mobile, and I’m sure you will agree the sound is superior to other comparable products on the market today.

I’m now back at PCDJ “Spin Media Works” with a whole host of new offers and ideas.
